Application for Apprentice Medical Scribe Professional

Please set up a profile and complete this form for our Winter/Sping Apprentice Medical Scribe Professional Program. 
 
This class is limited to 10 students and additional steps/documents are required before acceptance to the program. Once all application steps are completed, student will be provided with additional Registration/Payment information.  Availability is based on first-come, first-served basis for those completing application requirements.
 
These steps include emailing the following to workforce@centralvirginia.edu  
 
1.  Resume or Job History 
 
2.  1 page Letter of Interest explaining (1) why you would be a good candidate for this program and (2) how you hope to use an industry credential in your future career plans. 
 
3.  Copy of High School Diploma or Equivalent
 
4.  TABE Testing
Copy of TABE scores – must have tested within the past 24 months. Minimum scores of 536 and a corresponding NRS Level of 4 or higher are required in Reading and Math on the TABE 11/12 Assessment. Return to the Home page of this site and add a test date to your cart. 
 
4.  3-minute typing test taken at typing.com.  Score of 35 WPM or higher required
 
Criminal Background Check
 
All Apprentice Medical Scribe Professional Program applicants will be required to submit a Criminal Background Check with the Virginia State Police via a  CVCC Workforce Development Representative.  The Criminal History Background Check results must be received by the Office of Workforce Development prior to an official acceptance into the Medical Scribe program can be finalized. 
 
The Apprentice Medical Scribe Professional applicant is responsible for the $20.00 charge which is payable to the Virginia State Police by Money Order only.  Please bring a State issued ID or a State issued driver’s license.
 
Drug/Nicotine Screening (will be required before the start of clinical rotations once clinical site has been determined for the student)
 
All Apprentice Medical Scribe Professional Program applicants will be required to have a nine drug screen urine test that INCLUDES nicotine.

Appointments are not needed. Walk-ins are accepted any time between 9:00 – 5:00, Monday – Friday. (Closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day)
The student is responsible for the fee of $60.00 (cash) or $62.50 (credit/debit card).

The nine drug screen and nicotine urine screen results must be included with your application materials. The drug screening results must be emailed to workforce@centralvirginia.edu directly from Blue Ridge Scientific or HealthWorks.

FastForward Credential Grant/New Economy Workforce Credential Grant
Eligible Virginia Residents pay 1/3 of tuition with grant funding.  Criteria includes: length of time of residency in Virginia, length of time income taxes have been paid in Virginia, etc.

BENEFIT: Will pay a portion of the first third of any FastForward Program. 
 
REQUIREMENT: Student must be a Virginia resident and complete application and provide documentation verifying financial need. This program is income based if your current adjusted income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guideline.

Virginia Ready State Aid (VRSA)
BENEFIT: Will pay full first third of specific FastForward Program PLUS $1,000 if they obtain the related credential.

REQUIREMENT: Student must be a Virginia resident, apply to become a Virginia Ready Scholar, be approved, and complete an application meeting one of the following criteria:
 
1. Unemployed due to COVID-19; or
2. Eligible for FANTIC or current adjusted income is at or below 400% of the Federal Poverty Guideline; or
3. Currently earning less than $15/hour and working less than 30 hours a week; or
4. Currently earning less than $15/hour and unable to access employer benefits for medical coverage and/or paid time off.

Re Employing Virginia (REV) 
BENEFIT: Will pay full first third of any G3 FastForward Program.

REQUIREMENT: Student must be a Virginia resident and completes simple application with two criteria:

1. Lost their job due to COVID-19 and received state unemployment benefits before/after August 1, 2020, or
2. Business where they worked closed and they were laid off from full-time and are now working part-time and earn less than $15 hour
 
Tobacco Commission Aid
