The second level of the four-part HVACR curriculum continues trainee progression from Level 1 with more advanced topics for prospective HVACR technicians. NCCER’s HVACR curriculum meets HVAC Excellence accreditation standards to prepare trainees to sit for HVAC Excellence certification tests.

The HVAC Level 2 course has thirteen modules: alternating current, compressors, refrigerants and oils, leak detection, evacuation, recovery, and charging, metering devices, heat pumps, basic maintenance, chimneys, vents, and flues, sheet metal duct systems, fiberglass and fabric duct systems, commercial air side systems, air quality equipment, and introduction to hydronic systems.

Students should have basic computer skills, basic math skills and be able to use a calculator to complete NCCER module testing and completion of homework assignments in CANVAS. Students must complete and pass all modules to be certified in NCCER HVAC 2.
