Students receive hands-on training using simulators, which replicate real-life operating scenarios through rotation-motion platforms and high-resolution 3D displays for excavator and wheel loader equipment.

The HEO Level 1 course has eight modules: orientation to the trade, heavy equipment safety, identification of heavy equipment, basic operational techniques, utility tractors, introduction to earth moving, grades and vertical-mast sit-down counterbalance forklifts.

After successful completion of all eight modules and homework assignments, students will receive the NCCER Heavy Equipment Operations 1 credential.
