FastForward Eligible Program: To qualify for FastForward programs, you must meet the Virginia Domicile requirements. Virginia "domicile" means you have lived in Virginia for at least one year and intend to stay indefinitely. A domicile determination form will be part of your registration process. If you qualify, you will pay one-third (1/3) of the cost of the program. If you have a financial need, you may also qualify for Financial Assistance (G3) that can pay 100% of your third.

* You must come into the Workforce Solutions office to apply for G3 funding prior to enrollment. 


This comprehensive training provides essential skills for inspecting, installing, testing, and repairing backflow prevention assemblies in cross-connection control programs.

Key Information: Meets Virginia DPOR certification exam prerequisites, combines classroom learning with hands-on laboratory work, and mandatory attendance and 70% passing requirement on both written and practical exams.

Students will learn to understand backflow hydraulics (backpressure vs. back siphonage), identify various backflow prevention assemblies and their functions, and perform field testing on reduced pressure principle, double check valve, and pressure vacuum breaker assemblies.

According to the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR), to become certified as a VADPOR Backflow Prevention Device Worker certification exam applicants must have four years of practical experience in water distribution systems and 40 hours of formal vocational training in a school approved by the Board for Contractors.

OR

Seven years of practical experience in the trade and 16 hours of formal vocational training in a school approved by the Board for Contractors.

Note: Individual Experience Verification Forms and certification(s) of completion or official transcripts are required attachments as part of the VA DPOR Board for Contractors Backflow Prevention Device Worker Certification Application with fees for License exam.

Ideal For: Water/wastewater professionals, irrigation specialists, landscapers, fire prevention personnel, maintenance staff, developers, and plumbers with four years of employment under a licensed VA DPOR contractor in water distribution systems.
