Apprentice Medical Scribe Professional




Program Description:
As the use of Electronic Health Records continues to become more widespread in the healthcare industry, the need for Medical Scribes continues to grow. This quickly emerging profession allows the scribe to work directly with physicians to accurately document all aspects of the patient visit.

This hybrid course will cover the roles and functions of a medical scribe, as well as medical terminology, coding, use of an EHR, and various progress note formats. Upon completion, the student will be prepared to sit for the Apprentice Medical Scribe Professionals (AMSP) Certification exam. This class is a mix of classroom hours and online work.

CVCC offers a pre-course, The American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) class to train students to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an AED. This class is specifically designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills.

CVCC also offers an optional pre-course, Medical Terminology Bootcamp, designed to assist students in learning medical language and basic structure and function of the human body.

Funding Opportunities:




FastForward programs are short-term training courses for industry credentials in high-demand jobs. Eligible Virginia residents may pay only one-third (1/3) of the full tuition cost. Financial assistance is available to offset some or all the FastForward tuition costs through our Workforce Credential Grant. To qualify, you must meet the Virginia domicile requirements. Virginia “domicile” means you have lived in Virginia and intended to stay here indefinitely for at least one year before the date of application.
A domicile determination form will be sent to your email as a part of your registration process.

Virginia Ready Initiative: This course may qualify you for a one-time Virginia Ready Credential Achievement Award of $1000. You must apply to Virginia Ready within five calendar days of your FastForward course start date to be part of this program, if eligible. Learn more and apply to become a Virginia Ready (VA Ready) Scholar today!

G3 Initiative: The G3 program makes it possible for Virginians with low or modest income to pursue jobs in high-demand fields. Once you enroll in this application course, we will contact you regarding G3 and other funding opportunities.
